Week after spring break

Work Log: Monday March 22, 2010 -- 830 AM-12 PM, Wednesday March 24, 2010 -- 830 AM-12 PM

After a week long break, it was nice to finally get back into the swing of things. I feel like most of the people I work with were super busy this week, but I honestly didn't have a lot to do. I worked on the daily e-clippings and broadcast clips as usual, organized the newspapers and worked on some page releases to help out Jennifer.

I started to apply for more jobs this week and so far, not so good. I'm not going to let it get me down though because I know that people apply for many jobs and only get interviews to a select few.

There is basically only one month until graduation! Such a scary thought! I keep thinking that I'm not old enough or mature enough to have a job, but it is inevitable that it is about time to grow up. I feel that all of the internships I have had now including this one will be beneficial to my future profession.

Weeks flying by...

A lot of bills were being introduced and approved in the Senate this week. Although I don't get to sit in on the session, I do get to hear it over the intercom where my desk is and the debates can get pretty intense. I got to explore the area where the senators offices are located this week and that was pretty cool. I feel like this week wasn't too busy for me this week, but really busy for the senators and house representatives.

A man that works for the Senate stopped by my desk yesterday afternoon and gave me good tips on how to interview for jobs and what all I need to include in my resume. He was even nice enough to give me a few books that he found important when he was trying to find jobs after graduation.

The more I work for the Senate, the more it makes me want to go into some kind of political job, whether it is being a lobbyist or just working in the office of a politician. I keep going back and forth and what I really want to do in my future. I'm hoping it will just come to me one day and I will know exactly what I want to do. What's probably going to happen is that I will apply for a bunch of jobs and which ever ones I get offered is the direction that I will go. My dad keeps telling me that I can't pick the place I want to live and then pick a job, the job has to pick me and then I'll move to whatever city that job is located in. If only it could be the exact way we wanted it!

I'm off for SB '10 right now and won't work next week, but I'm sure there will be a lot of things to get done when I get back!

Week @ The Senate

Work Log: Monday March 1, 2010- 830am-12pm; Wednesday March 3, 2010- 830am-12pm

This week at the Senate was pretty normal. I finished up a stack of road releases and sent them out for approval. After the approval, I had to send them out to the local newspapers. My internship coordinator at work gave me some good advice about what to do after I graduate. She told me that since the job market is still not very good, I should possibly go to graduate school or even law school if I wanted. Since then I have been considering going to grad school, but I don't really know what I would get my graduate degree in as of right now.

This internship has really got me thinking and I don't really know if PR is the field for me. I talked to one of my advertising teachers and it really made me think about what I want to do for a living. If I do chose to find a job after graduation instead of going to school, I think I'm going to try and get into advertising or marketing rather than public relations.

All in all, this week was good and I think I got a lot done at my internship. We will see what the next week will bring.
